I hope all is well with you.
I started the day in a good mood but things have changed. I'm
really annoyed (expletive) because a hacker has got into the
admin side of one of my sites and installed a huge script for
spamming. Has taken up half of my webspace.
From what I can see it is some (expletive) from Russia. I now
have to go through every file to make sure I remove all of his
without inadvertently removing my own.
Then I have to figure out how to stop the same thing happening
again. It's times like these a bit of programming knowledge
is needed.
On a positive note I've been adding a lot more internet and
affiliate marketing articles to the website. These are articles
that have been sitting on my computer for months just waiting
for me to create the webpages and upload. Go to "articles"
page if you want to check them out.
Now for my "spin" on the duplicate content saga that has come
alive over the last couple of weeks. I think a lot of people
have jumped into panic mode without really thinking this
through. I don't believe that sites will be adversely affected
with duplicate content because 80 - 90% of websites have
duplicate content. How many sites publish other peoples
articles, how many reseller pages are online. I think that as
long as your content is relevant to your site it will be O.K.
Google want to earn money from Adwords so they need lots of
Adsense pages out there.
Of course, I encourage you to edit private label content as
much as you can, although it is a labor intensive job.
All the best,
Bryan

How Proactive Networking Can Dramatically Boost Your
Business
© 2006 by Christophe Poizat - All rights reserved
Dear Friend,
Do you know why most people fail at marketing anything
on the Internet? Even though the products
or services they are trying to sell are awesome?
Regardless of your present level of success, pause
for a minute and try to find out the #1 reason for
failure so you can avoid making the same marketing
mistake most people make over and over. Found it?
It is fairly simple: once they have caught someone's
attention, most people will start touting about how
great their products or services are:
"nothing that you will have ever seen..."
Generally, when you own a "brick-and-mortar"
business, you get to meet face-to-face with your
potential customers at least once. That's how people
get acquainted and how business relationships are
established and eventually develop into long-lasting
and mutually beneficial rapports.
It's a fact, people are usually more enticed to do
business with someone they feel they can trust.
Believe me my friend, establishing trust on the
Internet is the most difficult and challenging thing
to accomplish. Why is that?
Here is the main reason: people don't get to see each
other, to feel each other, to see each other's
expressions and body language which helps to gauge
the person that is in front of us and immediately
determine whether we want to do business with
that person or not. Don't we say we have 15 seconds
to make a good or bad impression?
If you want to be successful online, your #1 goal is
to establish a trustworthy relationship with your
potential customers. Instead of touting about your
products or services right off the bat, you would be
better off trying to know people's needs first!
That's were proactive networking comes into play.
Proactive networking has become a necessity in
today's business world. Pro-active networking is
the systematic process of establishing relationships
with new people and build mutually beneficial
relationships.
Once a relationship is established, it will be easier
to offer your products or services to people that are
in your network and trust you!
Happy pro-active networking!
All the best,
Christophe

Monetizing RSS Feeds
By S. Housley
Publishers are evaluating options and determining how they
can profit from RSS feeds. The two obvious contenders that
publishers are considering to profit from their RSS feeds
are: subscription RSS feeds and RSS feed advertisements.
Subscriptions.
Subscription feeds are designed so that subscription fees
are charged for unique quality content. Publishers include
teaser copy in the RSS feed and readers have to purchase a
subscription to see the content in its entirety. The New
York Times was the first to introduce the subscription
model. Initially the NY Times faced some resentment from
users who had become accustom to free RSS based content, but
ultimately consumers realize that businesses must achieve
profits in order to continue.
The greater the value of the content contained in the feed
and the uniqueness of the content will determine the success
of subscription based feeds. Simply put, if readers can
obtain the same quality and quantity of content from an
alternative free source they will. Not unlike magazines, if
the content the publisher is providing is unique and
valuable, the subscription model will flourish.
Advertisements.
The web has undergone a number of revisions to online
advertising models. Banner ads, once an effective way to
generate valuable leads are screened or filtered by most
novice users. Text ads have become common place and are far
less effective than they once were, advertising in RSS feeds
was a natural step for online advertisers.
Contextual advertisements or advertisements that relate to
the webpage or RSS feed's content, achieve the highest rate
of success. As a result both advertisers and content
providers should critically evaluate advertisement placement
systems to determine which system produces the highest
relevance in contextually based advertisements.
Google AdSense provides contextually relevant ads while
Pheedo provides related category feeds. Publishers need to
determine which model will produce advertisements that are
relevant to the RSS feed's content and actionable by feed
readers.
Hybrid Advertisements.
Other hybrid alternatives for profiting from RSS feeds
include optionally giving subscribers the choice. A small
fee for many might give subscribers the option to pay for
the feed ad-free or view advertisements in the feed. The
business model is reminiscent of adware in its infancy where
users could use software for an unlimited amount of time.
The software had imbedded advertisements and publishers were
compensated for ad impressions or click-throughs. If users
preferred an ad free version of the software they could
purchase a registered copy that would remove the imbedded
advertisements. More on Advertising in Feeds with a
comparison of ad serving technologies.

Advertising online is constantly evolving. Both content
publishers and advertisers are adapting and evaluating new
advertising models. RSS feed subscriptions and advertising
are merely a step in the evolution of online advertising.
Knowing your audience will help publishers determine the
most effective model for profiting from content contained in
an RSS feed.

Pixel Ads - A Million Dollar Idea
So is pixel advertising just another fad... here today and gone
tomorrow? No one really knows for sure, but right now it's one of
the hottest online advertisement mediums.
But in order for pixel advertising to have any kind of real staying
power, people will have to do more with the concept than just
introduce 'knockoff sites'.
While the 'cookie-cutter clone' approach favors the quick buck
artists, copying Alex Tew's 'Million Dollar Homepage'
(www.milliondollarhomepage.com) idea is simply not
sustainable in the long run. What's needed, in order for the pixel
advertising craze to survive, is for webmasters to give
advertisers a legitimate reason to buy pixels from them... other
than that it's new and cool. With so many people now selling
pixel ads, how do sellers differentiate themselves? Or do pixel
ads become a mere commodity, where price per pixel becomes
the overriding consideration.
So is there hope for pixel advertising as a viable ad medium? I
believe so, and the answer lies in one word... creativity. How
can someone take this concept, give it a unique twist and then
add value?
It seems unlikely that that advertisers will continue to simply pay
good money, just to have an advertisement on a pixel page...
without seeing a potential for return on their investment. A
recent random check of a dozen or so pixel clone sites reveals
this to be true... a lot of empty pixel real estate remains unsold.
And at prices below what Alex Tew was charging.
Of course, some sharp marketers soon figured out that pixels
sites oriented around 'adult entertainment' might draw some
interest from advertisers. You have to figure it's only a matter of
time before X-Rated pixel sites are in full bloom all over the
internet.
Pornography aside though, what are some ways that inspired
webmasters might monetize pixel ad sites? Perhaps by holding
a contest... maybe a raffle to benefit a charity or some sort other
promotion for a worthy cause. Or maybe taking a lead from the
blogging community and doing a pixel site for like-minded
individuals, causes or organizations. Such as a guide site to
local churches in a given city.
Another idea might be to create a site where hobbyists or
enthusiasts could post pictures... like Corvette owners, coin
collectors, people who grow roses, fisherman - who could
display their prized catches or favorite fishing holes, NBA fans,
etc. The possibilities are virtually endless.
Or how about a site featuring puppies? A pixel-master could
allow canine lovers to come and post adorable puppy pictures.
It could even be a free site, where the owner could place a
sprinkling of Google Adsense ads, a couple of Amazon banner
ads for books about puppy care... and even some relevant
affiliate links to sites selling dog related products.
Will this make a million dollars? More than likely... no.
But it does add value and could easily generate some income
from contextual avertising, affiliate referrals and even topical e-
book sales.
And besides... isn't a page full of cute puppies a whole lot better
than a page full of lonely pixels!
