Choosing The Right Affiliate Program
So what is the first step in achieving affiliate marketing success, you might ask?
Let’s put it this way: will you expect to have a great time at the theatre when the movie you’re supposed to watch isn’t really that good? Or will you expect to get a blast from reading a book when all indications point to the fact that it’s quite a bore?
The same thing applies here. It all depends on the affiliate program you will choose to enroll with. Partner with the wrong affiliate program and you will never get to realize the promises that this field has to offer. Partner with the right affiliate program and you’ll discover that this field is all that it claims to be, and so much more.
So the first question that you must answer is this: how do you find the right affiliate program?
It all begins from there.
Commission Rate Is Not The End All And Be All Of Affiliate Programs
At first, it will be easy to assume that the best affiliate programs are those that offer really high commission rates, ranging from 70% of the selling price and above. Indeed, such is an easy presumption to make, but it is a very dangerous one.
You see, even if an affiliate program promises 95% commission, if the products are hard to sell, you’ll never get to see that 95%.
There should be a balance somewhere, which can be seen in the following formula:
commission rate + salability of product + demand in the market = affiliate marketing success
As you can see, we have broken down affiliate marketing success into three distinct components, all of which should favorably exist to ensure garnering the most out of this opportunity.
How Sellable Are The Affiliate Merchant’s Products?
Before you can have your commission, you must be able to refer some sales. And your sales will depend on how sellable the affiliate merchant’s products are.
In the online world, this can be determined with ease. Simply put yourself in the shoes of the prospect and read the affiliate merchant’s sales page. A sales page is the only manner by which the merchant can deliver his sales pitch in the World Wide Web. It’s like his virtual salesperson that works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Did the sales page convince you to buy?
If it is quite persuasive, then you’ve got a blockbuster there and chances are, you’d be able to refer a good number of sales for some amazing commissions.

In Search Of A Hungry Market
The success of any commercial enterprise is dependent of the level of demand existing in the market it is catering. If the business is catering to a market that has been saturated (or even overly saturated) with similar products, then profit will be extremely low. On the other hand, if the business is catering to a market that has not experienced much of similar products, then there will always be a place in the shelves for what the said venture can offer.
It’s the most basic concept of economics: the law of supply and demand. The higher the supply, the less the demand; the lower the supply, the higher the demand. And profit is directly proportional to demand.
In publishing your own Ebook, you must take these factors into consideration… right from the very start. This means that before you will write, or cause the writing, of your eBook, you should try to find a market that is hungry for the information you can provide.
“I’m an expert with this stuff, I’m going to write an eBook about it and sell it to the world” is not a mentality that will ensure success in the digital publishing business. Unless you’re a well known expert in your field, no one will be interested with your memoirs.
You need to find a hungry market. There are no ifs and buts about it.
Below are steps you should take to find subjects which can guarantee the highest level of success in this industry.
1. Look for inspiration. This is something that can never be forced. There is no concrete strategy when it comes to this step, as inspiration can come from many quarters. Perhaps, you’ll get an idea of what topic to discuss while reading the papers during breakfast, or when you see a billboard while driving your kids to school, or when you hear something peculiar but exciting while conversing with friends. Veteran online businessmen will always tell you to keep a mini-notebook handy so that you can write down these ideas once they arrive, and you’ll never forget about them.
2. Once you have an idea in mind, check out the demand for the same. Head over to www.nichebot.com and use the free tool there. This will tell you two things: a) relevant keywords about the said topic; and b) number of searches made for such keywords. The higher the number of searches made, the better the idea is said to be.
3. Now it’s time to check the number of competition you’ll have for such a topic. Select any of the keywords that have been suggested and run a search at Google. Notice the number of web pages that appear? All of those are your competitors. You will want to have as low a number as possible. After all, you want people to pay for the information you can share. If they can find such information for free somewhere else, they won’t buy your eBook.
4. The goal is to find a topic with a lot of searches but with few web pages catering to the same. I have always been asked exact numbers, but because this is a fickle industry, I cannot give any. Nonetheless, if I am asked to approximate, I’d say that you should find a topic that fetches searches not less than 12,000 per month, and competition that is not more than 2,000 web pages. Such number increases proportionately, so you can have an idea about corresponding adjustments.
5. Once you find such a topic, it will be time to commence the preparation of your eBook.

A mailing list is also called a follow-up system because it does exactly that – follows up on your prospects. The system is quite simple: you capture the email addresses and other related details of your prospects. They then become your leads. Thereafter, you will send them some friendly reminders about your offers, some freebies to warm them up to your good graces, and some tales and anecdotes so that they may get to know you better and you’d be able to win their trust.
A mailing list is also your leverage for so many things. Want to enter into beneficial joint venture that will catapult your online enterprise to the next level of prominence? Your JV partners will judge your worth based, partially, on the size of your mailing list. Want to host a seminar and you’re on the lookout for presenters? It’s a “what’s in it for me” business and they will ask how big your mailing list is.
A mailing list is not a strategy for success in this industry.
