Recurring Income ­ Your Ticket To Intelligent Wealth Creation


Every single human being on this planet has the potential
to be wealthy. Bar none!

That’s a pretty bold statement, but it’s true. You can
create your own financially independent lifestyle in a
multitude of ways. Today, we’ll look at recurring income
as your wealth creation vehicle.

Recurring income is money that flows into your bank
account on a regular basis. Some of the common business
models that take advantage of recurring income include
subscriptions and membership fees.

The most common recurring online plans, pay out on a
monthly basis. Some pay out on an annual or bi-annual
schedule, depending on the payment plan. Many
independently wealthy people have developed their empires
using these business models.

Subscriptions and Membership Fees

Subscriptions and membership fees work in a similar
fashion. The subscriber or member is granted access to a
product or service in exchange for a regular recurring
payment.

This business model guarantees the subscriber/member
continued service and guarantees the provider a locked
in, guaranteed income.

But there are pitfalls. If you’re thinking about creating
a recurring billing product, you could be in for a wild
ride. The following case study is the real life journey
that I took, while creating The Business Professional
Private Members’ Site.

CASE STUDY: The Business Professional Private Membership

Website Launch Date : May, 1, 2004

In the research phase, I decided to keep everything
in-house except for the payment processing. This gave me
greater control over the entire process, but created a
lot more work in the beginning.

The basic modules that needed to snap together and make
the membership area run, were:

1. Membership software to create logins and passwords

2. Affiliate software to track affiliate sales and
commissions

3. Autoresponder

4. Payment Processor

Discovering what software to use was a matter of trial
and error, but I finally ended up choosing:

1. Membership Manager from GroundBreak

2. Ultimate Affiliate Manager to handle the
affiliate and autoresponder functions

3. PayPal / 2CheckOut to process recurring payments

The next step was to have a programmer connect the dots
and make all three programs play nicely together. This
was the step where I realized I’d done everything
backwards.

Instead of finding the software and then the programmer,
I should have found the programmer and let him decide
how to create the system. I was now at a fork in the
road. Do I scrap the software that I already purchased
and start from ground zero, or do I invest in a
programmer to attempt to make all the software play
together.

To make a long story short, I decided on option two and
paid a programmer a small fortune to attempt the
impossible. In the end, The Business Professional works
90% on autopilot and 10% on manual.

It was a long and costly process, but a fantastic
learning experience. And the adventure was far from over.

Now I had a cool Private Membership site, with a $5,762
price tag. Next, I had to fill it with content. It took
another two months to top up the content and get things
rolling.

Fast forward to today.

CHALLENGE:

Both Edwin and I are spending 80% of our time marketing
The Business Professional and don’t have enough time to
build solid content into the member’s area.

SOLUTION:

Outsource the marketing to a handful of skilled
entrepreneurs, so we can focus on upgrading the member’s
area.

The marketers collect and keep 100% of the membership
fees, and we get a continual stream of new members who
order our products and services. This cooperative
business model builds a stronger, more profitable
business for everyone.

SUMMARY:

Generating a monthly recurring income by building a
membership website is a great concept. In practical terms,
it’s a costly way to learn the ropes.

Have You Started Building Your Virtual Real Estate Empire Yet?


In the offline world, a real estate empire is something that
every property investor strives to achieve. Similarly, in
the online world, many webmasters and business owners aim to
create and manage a network of profit-generating websites,
all earning them income, and creating long-term wealth.
These profit-pulling websites are essentially a form of
virtual real estate.

Many people make the mistake of building a website and
spending all of their time on that one website. They add
content, build links, etc, to build that website's presence,
which is perfectly fine, but it's very dangerous to rely on
the income from one website alone because of other factors
that are beyond your control.

For example, your income may depend heavily on the traffic
you receive from the search engines. So if, for example, the
search engines change their algorithms one day, you may
suddenly find your website has dropped significantly in the
search engines, and you've lost most of your traffic.
Similarly, if you are selling your own products, you may
suddenly find that the demand for your products has slowly
dwindled away and you now have an unprofitable website.

One way of negating this risk is to create your own virtual
real estate portfolio. This way, if you have multiple
profitable websites, even if one or two of your websites
become unprofitable, you still have other websites earning
you money.

Virtual real estate is similar in many ways to the
real-world property market, in that in general terms the
value of your websites should increase over time. This is
mainly because when you create websites, and consistently
build quality incoming links to these sites, over time as
your site ages, you will be rewarded for building these
links with a higher page rank and higher search engine
rankings. This not only increases your chances of making
more profits through increased traffic, but also enables you
to charge more for links or advertising space on your
website, and also increases the value of your website if you
wish to sell it at some point.

One thing you should bear in mind, however, is that if
you're serious about building your virtual real estate
empire, for long-term profits you have to make sure you're
building quality websites that will stand the test of time.
Junk sites will often receive low rankings, or may even get
de-indexed completely, wiping out profits overnight. One
thing you have to ask yourself is that if someone from
Google or Yahoo, for example, visited your site, would they
come to the conclusion that your site offers real quality
content, or provides products that would satisfy it's
visitors, and therefore merits high search engine rankings?
You should be able to answer yes to this question for every
website in your virtual real estate portfolio, for
consistent long-term success.

So to conclude, just get out there and start building your
virtual real estate empire right now. It's easier than you
think. You don't need to create lots of websites that sell a
certain product or range of products. You can simply create
websites which provide information, where you could then
display Google Adsense or Yahoo ads, for example, sell
advertising space to other webmasters, or include affiliate
links to products you're affiliated with. Not only that but
you could also build a list of subscribers for each website
through an opt-in form, so you can market to these people
over and over again legitimately through email, increasing
your profits further.

It is a time-consuming process marketing these websites to
make them profitable, and certainly too big a subject to
cover in this article, but the long-term financial rewards
that comes from owning your own virtual real estate empire
definitely makes it worthwhile.

Automation - The Key to Success Online

If you've been looking into selling products online then you've
probably heard some "expert" somewhere recommend that you create
a web site that is fully automated and helps you make money 24
hours a day. While that might sound great, what they often forget
to tell you is HOW to do that.

Well, I'm going to tell you right now, in this article!

First, what IS a Fully Automated Web Site? A Fully Automated Web
Site can be defined as one that is equipped with an integrated
suite of both e-commerce and internet marketing tools in a
fashion that will allow you to be the most profitable with the
least amount of effort.

Most e-commerce systems are equipped with the following
essentials:

- A shopping cart.
- Acceptance and processing of credit cards.
- A maintenance system that allows you to add/change products.
- An order-retrieval system that enables you to fulfill orders.

However, what most of them are lacking are marketing
tools.  If your website hits it big and you don't have the proper
tools in place, then you will be a slave to e-mail and order
processing.  I'm sure that's not what you intended.

There are several marketing strategies that are essential in the
creation of a successful e-commerce web site:

- Email marketing (broadcasting) of prospects/customers
- Effective use of autoresponders (generate automatic email
  messages)
- Online Newsletter
- Online Form / Survey to capture your prospect's email address
- Electronic Product Delivery (if you sold a digital product)
- Advertisement (Ad) Tracking
- Back End Sales
- Affiliate program

Now, if you had a system that would support the integration
of ALL of these marketing tools in addition to the
necessary e-commerce essentials, then you would have a Fully
Automated Web Site.  After all, it has been shown that it often
takes 7 or more ad exposures before prospective customers
actually make a purchase.  Consider the following scenario:

    A prospect clicks on an advertisement in an online magazine.
    This action increments a counter for this particular ad to
    help you determine how well it’s working.  They don’t decide
    to buy as of yet but join your newsletter.  They are now
    considered a prospect.  You begin to send them a monthly
    email newsletter.  Additionally, an autoresponder kicks in
    to thank them for joining the newsletter as well as
    scheduling them to get email twice a month for the next 90
    days reiterating your product benefits and inviting them to
    purchase.

    Upon sending them one of your "juicy" offers that they
    couldn't refuse, they finally purchase.  They will
    automatically be removed from your prospect list and added
    to your customer list.

    Based on the particular product or service they’ve
    purchased, they will receive a series of emails every two
    weeks for the next 6 months offering complementary products.
    This will be the engine that will drive your back end sales
    and keep your customers coming back to your web site.

Being able to play out a scenario such as this using one
integrated system would be pretty impressive don’t you think?
The internet big boys do this with expensive e-commerce platform
suites produced by vendors such as IBM, Microsoft and Oracle.
Having your system automatically perform these follow up tasks
frees you up to spend more time on your business, your health or
your family!

=====> What can you do to create a fully automated web site?

Fortunately, there are ways that you can automate your website in
much the same way that the big boys do.  The best and most
cost-effective way would be to sign up with one of the handful of
Application Service Providers available on the internet which
provide a shopping cart integrated with a full suite of marketing
tools.  Normally, the shopping cart and tools are very flexible
and can be incorporated into any website.

=====> Are there any other ways to automate your business besides
working with a total solution provider?

You can accomplish some level of automation without an integrated
shopping cart system, however, it will require manual
intervention and of course it would be incomplete. I believe that
the most important asset of your e-commerce business is your
email lists.  Therefore, concentrate on the implementation of a
good autoresponder/list server system to "enhance" your present
e-commerce website.  There are several good ones on the market.
Look for providers that allow you to:

- Create multiple lists.
- Add prospects via a web form, email, or manually through a
  management console.
- Send out an unlimited number of autoresponder messages.
- Send out an unlimited number of email broadcasts.
- Set up and distribute a newsletter.

When setting up your autoresponder system, create one list for
your "prospects" and another one for your "customers".  Now,
here's where you come in: when a person orders your product, you
will have to perform the extra task of logging into your
autoresponder system and manually remove them from the prospect
list and add them to the customer list.  This action will then
trigger your customer autoresponder series of messages to be
sent.

Remember, the key to building a successful e-commerce web site is
to automate your marketing engine as much as possible and drive
your prospects and customers back to your web site.  This will
certainly create a money magnet e-commerce web site for you!
