What are Content Rich Sites?

By Sharon Housley

What are Content Sites?
If you are like many of those who started out with
intentions of making millions online and are struggling to
capture the attentions of the large search engines, you are
in good company. Times have changed, and due to the low cost
of entry, the online world is becoming very competitive for
businesses starting out. Unless a website has a regional
appeal or caters to a very niche product or service, it is
rare that a webmaster can create a website that is only
focused on selling.

What is the answer?
The answer is content. The concept is not new, it comes down
to the simple concept of bartering, give something in order
to get something. In this case the trade off, is free
information in exchange for website traffic and search
engine ranking. The key is to create a website with content
that other webmasters, bloggers, and publishers will want to
link to. In order to generate interest and incoming links
that result in web traffic, you will need to provide unique
content. Related content drives traffic, understanding what
makes one website a stand-out when others fail is the key to
building a content rich portal.

How do I use content to sell my stuff?
First off, the content you provide must be of interest to
potential customers. If you are selling a product, why not
provide dimensions, customer ratings, reviews, warranty
information, additional product suggestions, color or size
charts. In addition to additional product information,
consider your demographic, and find content that will be of
interest to individuals (or businesses ) that you feel
typify a potential customer. It is also best if the content
your provide is related to the product you are promoting.

Lets take a look at some content rich examples:

How does the site Gourmet Living that is focused on selling
cooking items use content to promote their products and sell
their wares? Gourmet Living uses recipes to draw in
individuals interested in cooking. The topic (recipes) is
clearly closely related to the products they are selling
(cookware and gourmet cookbooks), additionally the recipes
targets their potential audience, those with an interest in
cooking. The Gourmet Living website uses additional food
preparation tips and articles that discuss gourmet cooking
to generate additional interest.

How does Dog Pound, a website promoting products for dog
care, use content to generate website traffic. The Dog Pound
website has educational articles related to dog breeds and
training. In addition, the dog pound website has videos of
common dog breeds, cute pet photos, and free recipes for dog
treats. My recommendation would be to take the photo section
a step further, encourage individuals to send in their
favorite doggy photos and conduct a dog beauty contest.

How does security port, a website that does not sell
anything and profits from advertising, use content to
attract traffic and promote their website? The security port
focus is on aggregating a host of security resources, from
security glossaries to security forums. By creating a
topical portal with information relevant to security, they
are providing one stop shop for security information.

Remember, at the end of the day that all of the advertising
campaigns and attractive affiliate programs will only result
in traffic spikes which will be transient. Generating a
content rich website that is useful, educational, or
entertaining will attract and retain customers. While it's
hard to assemble a content-rich site that motivates others
to link to you, it is certainly not impossible. Keep in mind
that search engine rankings are influenced by the amount and
quality of a website's content. Provide content that will
make webmasters want to link to your website.

Navigate with Ease Why Easy Website Navigation is the Key to Repeat Business

Although there are many experts who claim to know what makes a website successful, upon researching one would find that almost every expert would agree that navigation has a large part in the formula.  Easy website navigation is the key to repeat business.  There are thousands of websites out there floating around.  Not every one of these websites is successful and that is mainly due to the website structure itself.  If you want to create a website that is structurally capable of leading to repeat business, then you should consider these tips during the creating and building processes.

Easy website navigation needs to begin with the design of your website.  Before your website is published on the web, it should be finished and able to be easily navigated.  Don’t wait for the problems to present themselves through use to figure out what works and what doesn’t, especially if you are running a web business.  There is simply no room for needless error when it comes to your business.  The first thing to remember during initial design phases is that your website should be so simple to use that an eleven-year-old child should be able to figure it out.  It is unlikely someone that young would ever be conducting business online, but many adults need the simplicity on websites.  You should also keep it simple enough to run on even the slowest computer you can imagine someone owning.  Not everyone has the fastest and newest computers around, so you will need to keep that in mind.  If you only design for the highest forms of technology, you will likely loose quite a few potential customers.

When it comes to the actual design, try to use things that are easy to the eye.  Pictures and graphics work really well, as long as they are not too large or complicated.  If you are using photos, make sure you use thumbprints that can be clicked upon to reveal a larger image of the photo.  The thumbprints will load quickly for those with slower connections, but also allow the option of seeing the image in larger form.  Consumers would much rather gather information from pictures on the web than by reading boring text.  A good rule is to offer a majority of images, with a little text mixed in.

When adding content to your site, there are a few things you should not do.  First, you should not repeat common information.  If you assume your audience is ignorant, they will likely be offended.  Second, you should not repeat information from other websites with the same subject as yours.  This will only make you look uniform and basically convince consumers you have nothing unique to offer them.  If they can get the same deals at another website, they just might take their business there.  Be sure you are adding valuable information and products on your website.  Consumers are intelligent and want to be treated as such.

When trying to figure out how to link each page to another, you will need to keep an “obvious” state of mind.  This means that any place that you feel you must type “click here” should be so obvious that even without the actual words “click here”; the consumer should feel that is what should be done next.  Designing your site with predictability in mind is a great idea.  The more comfortable the consumer feels with the site, the better your business will be and the more repeat business you can expect.  When the customer “knows” what will happen next, they will automatically feel comfortable.  Surprising customers is not usually a great idea, so make sure everything works as it should.  Place links in appropriate places so the viewer does not need to search endlessly for the link to the next page.

Lastly, remember to avoid backgrounds and colors that distract from your products and website in general.  Never use anything blinking in your site design.  Blinking ads and content are annoying to everyone that uses the internet and can even cause medical problems in some viewers.  Repeat business will not exist if you use content that is difficult on the eyes or it annoying to viewers.  To get people to come back to your website, you need to create a place that can be navigated with complete ease.  Make sure that all links are checked daily to ensure that your website is running as smoothly as possible.  Also, be sure to have all of the “kinks” taken care of before you even publish your site online.  Do these things and you are sure to have repeat business.

The Fundamentals of A Successful Work at Home Business

By Hector Morales

So you want to start your own work at home business, eh? Good! Do you know how to start? There's no doubt you can actually get filthy rich with a successful work at home business. To get started, all you need is to come up with an idea (a great one); something that's truly unique, something which has never been thought of before, then start a business based upon it. That's it! Of course there's more work to do once you've come out with a great idea. But once you get that great idea out of your head, the rest is really not that hard to accomplish. Nevertheless, how come there are thousands of work at home businesses that have turned out to be total failures in spite of being based on great ideas? Obviously, it's not for the lack of genuinely unique ideas. Many of these failed businesses have truly unique ideas behind them. The problem lies primarily in the fact that their creators are not familiar with the basics involved in running a work at home business.

The Legal Form of A Work at Home Business

Let's take a look at the very first factor you should take into account when deciding to start a work at home business. The first thing you should think about when starting a work at home business is its legal form. What's with the legal form? The legal form of your work at home business is the actual facet of the business that you'll be operating under. There are usually four legal forms that you'll be able to choose from if you're just starting. These legal forms choices are: partnership, limited partnership, corporation and sole proprietorship. The most obvious choice for most work at home businesses is sole proprietorship. If you're starting a work at home business, it goes without saying that you're looking for that freedom and independence not found in your current ordinary job. And with sole proprietorship you get that independence.

Successful Work at Home Business - Pitfalls to Avoid

Being successful in a work at home business involves certain characteristics that you need to develop. One of the most basic traits you must develop is a tight hold on your expenses. This is really important because if you don't pay close attention to this aspect of your business you could simply become a complete failure among the thousands failed work at home businesses. Don't waste your start-up capital on add-ons such as expensive furnishings, an impressive store-front office, corporate legal costs, etc. A good advice to follow is to not never purchase anything that you really don't need; anything that doesn't make you money or protect your investment. This is where a work at home business on sole proprietorship is very favorable - the protection of your investment.

A work at home business on sole proprietorship allows you invest everything you have without the need for a corporation to protect your investment. You'll receive full protection from the homestead provision of the Federal Bankruptcy Act. This is an enormous benefit because according to the Federal Bankruptcy Act, your personal belongings, household possessions, usually your car, and even a portion of the equity of your home cannot be taken away from you!

However, just like with any type of business there's something you'll have to deal with no matter what. As a sole proprietor or partner of a work at home business, you'll be subject to tax cuts. This is pretty much the same as when you still held down a salaried or hourly paid job. This is one of the aspects that differentiate a corporation from a sole proprietorship. Unlike a sole proprietorship, with a corporation you can generally manipulate your salary in order to save on tax dollars. And although the IRS commonly frowns on this practice, this is very common with corporation laws. All in all, you'll be subject to a number of drawbacks when you decide to incorporate your work at home business. Among the drawbacks you'll face include higher state taxes and stricter laws concerning the operation of your work at home business. In addition, you'll need more elaborate accounting procedures and prepare legal papers that are required every time you make a major move with your work at home business.

Being successful in business especially in a work at home business involves some very basic factors that you need to consider. If you can actually understand these basics (as described above) thoroughly, you'll be on your way to being the owner of a very successful work at home business.
